What Pat said ....
Awesome results and some wicked driving from our lads. Long haul down
there for most of us on Friday, a few beers after Scrutineering and
a good laugh.
The rally started with us all waving the HANKOOK 205 Challange
banners on the start line, then we set off to SS5 to watch at an uphill
hairpin. Roland Llewellin was on a mission, amazingly fast and throwing
it sideways on the straight just for the craic because we were there.
In the 205's Shaun Hattersley was one to watch he was 3rd fastest 205
on SS1, he was flying all day, sadly it ended in a tree!! Wilson, Nutt,
Hancke, Pearce and Bayliss all scrapped immediately for the lead.
While in the BMWs Cressey, Fairbairn and Ciro were straight on the pace,
Although llewellin is not registered he was still the 1st 2WD and chasing
the 4 Soobys and Evos ahead.
The next stage we attended was ss9 & 10, as we ran up Roland was
coming out, so we ran to flying finish to see Bayliss fully sideways
thru the finish [This section was a fast left into fast right 180m,
then open 90 left over finish].
All our guys looked amazingly fast here, Pearce was on a mission, Wilson
was deadly fast, Nutty looked cool with some great slides, Hancke was
spot on smooth & fast as always.
There was then a gap in the cars coming through and turned out car 42
(Nova) had rolled near the start. First car to the scene was the Bramwell
Kings who immediatly stopped and made sure the crew were OK, Becky srunning
down the stage to the start and summoning marshals to the scene before
carrying on through the stage. Well done Dave and Becky, they were worthy
winners of both the events own Spirit of the Rally and our HANKOOK
Hero's award.
THEN Roland Llewellin/Eurig Evans came thru again, he was visibly
ON IT thru the left/right, then changed up and kept it flat into finish.
There were 7 of us watching and we all turned to look at each other!!!
No way, he took that flat!! He's mad!! etc etc . Then we heard the horns.
We all ran, to find Roland about 100 metres past the finish in a bog,
the skid marks were amazing, he hadn't rolled but the finish marshals
were just watching, so we all piled in and lifted/pushed him out!! Wicked
Cressey, Fairbairn, foxy, Buckingham , Whitey, Pitcher and Long looked
great thru here, the BMWs suitng that style of corner with nice sideways.
We then met up with Andy Chalmers & Gem over on ss 13 & 14 where
we picked an uphill 90 left to the finish. The evos and Scoobys were
lovely thru here, the Escort Course car, was also excellent here.
Then Came Wilson/Jenkins really on it, Nutty/Kev well on it, then Bayliss/Mason
arrived with no bumpers or Tailgate, a rare mistake causing the 1st
damage all year to the SLN car! But no Llewellin, in Rolands words he
took a 90 left 30 mph too fast. Well off. Ciro had also crashed into
a tree, breaking the oil cooler. Chris Paulson retired from a good run
with Alternator trouble.
Warren was stuck in 2nd gear for 9 stages, but still held 2nd but was
being hunted down by Foxy who was flying, Steve & Ben were trying
not to celebrate Bens 21st too early but held a 40second lead. Nutty
had a big moment at our corner here. Goodman was looking great on his
way to a top 10 Pug finish. Hancke dropped time in a ditch, so Pearce
not content with the Novice win was now chasing Bayliss for 3rd.
Wilson had 5 secs on Nutt with 2 stages left, he came out with the win!!!
Amazing camaraderie with all the lads.
My highlights...
Jonah/Phil taking a brilliant 1st Beginners win.
The birthday party after in the bar!!
Dave & Becs Bramwell-Kings stopping at an accident to help out,
and getting their HANKOOK Heros, plus Spirit awards.
Hattersley/Briggs banging in a top 3 time
Nuttys Grandad Cyril [80 yrs young] chatting up and dancing with every
female in the place, and finally being evicted off the stage when the
cabaret act was on !!! priceless
The DJ who wasn't too helpfull original version editied), who we ripped
to shreds when we got the mike. He really slated the rally but didnt
mind renting out 60 caravans, or the fact we ate 300 meals there, plus
drank the bar dry of lager.
The rally organiser Roger Gillard and team who coped with losing the
venues, crashes, plus awful rain, and still came out smiling well done
South Hams team.
Everyone who was there knows it was a hilarious experience, well done
to all crews!!!! See the video's at the below ..... !

1600 & RWD Challenge
Organisers Forward
South
Hams Motor Club Ltd welcomes you to the 3rd Newton Abbot Audi Stages.
This year the event reverts to its original 2 day format for the main
rally and 2 separate one day events, all taking place over the weekend
of 8/9 October. We have had to move the rally just over the border to
Cornwall this year due to mileage shortages in our usual Devon forests.
8/9 October - The main rally is the 2 day Newton Abbot Audi Stages which
for the first time, is a round of the very successfull HanKook Peugeot
205 Challenge - now that will be exciting!!
On the Saturday there are 30 miles of smooth stages (not rallied since
the "TSH" in 1982 and some since the Southwest Stages in 1980)
in 5 forest venues. On Sunday we will be using 2 tarmac venues (Portreath
and Penhale) - no spectators please - for 30 miles of competitive motoring.
Our thanks
must go to Newton Abbot Audi and all the other sponsors, without whos
financial help (see below), this event could not run. The
organising team all look forward to seeing you on 8/9th October.
